DUMBO Mitts

Warm hands, free fingers. D.U.M.B.O by Mary Anne Benedetto, is named after the fast-paced industrial Brooklyn neighborhood. Smartphone-friendly, these mitts are perfect for racing to get coffee on a chilly morning. These stylish and functional mitts are made from the bottom up in the round and feature a gusset thumb, traveling and twisted stitches, and a central rope cable that flows into the short fingers.

FINISHED SIZE

Adult S (M, L); 7 (7.5, 8)” [18 (19, 20) cm] finished palm circumference.

Yarn

Hudson + West Co. Weld (70% U.S. Merino / 30% U.S. Corriedale; 200 yds [183 m]; 1.75 oz. [50g]): ash, 1 (1, 1) skein.

Needles

US 4 (3.5 mm): a set of double-pointed needles (dpns).
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions

Locking stitch markers (m); cable needle (cn); tapestry needle; waste yarn.

Gauge

34 sts and 34 rows = 4” (10 cm) in 1x1 Twisted Rib (slightly stretched).

Skills Required

Cabling with (or without) a cable needle; chart reading; increasing and decreasing, circular knit- ting.

Construction Notes

These mitts are knit in the round from the cuff to the fingers. The thumb and fingers are knit circularly and bound off with an stretchy sewn bind off.
